The Association for the Protection of the Birmingham Balti

The Association for the Protection of the Authentic Balti (APAB ) has been formed to protect the authenticity of Birmingham’s most famous dish. A not for profit coming together of genuine balti restaurants bound by a Memorandum of Understanding in relation to the preparation of their balti dishes. Safeguarding the Authentic Balti!

Our beloved Balti has been submitted for official recognition as a ‘dish of intangible cultural heritage’ to Birmingham. The bid is being led by Andy Munro (Balti Author and Secretary of APAB) and supported by the ‘Balti Ambassadors’, an illustrious list who’s names include; Brad Carter (Michelin starred chef), Professor Carl Chinn MBE, Ph.D (Brummie author, historian and raconteur), Kirsty Bosley (Birmingham Live , Chief Reporter Food and Drink) and Richard Parker (West Midlands Mayor).
